Are Bridges and Underpasses safe?

In a recent editorial in the News Times we learned that CT must take steps to make sure bridges are safe. Governor Rell's plan, "Safe and Sound," is a project that will cost $100 million in making sure some of the worst bridges in CT get repaired. It sounded as though Speaker of the House, James Amann, (D-Milford) requested money before the horrific incident in Minnesota (I-35W bridge) this past week and Rell shook it off. Some say Rell is, 'playing politics' by granting her new plan a day before the Democrats' press conference. On the other hand, Rell did increase bridge inspections in June from every two years to every four years and $40 million to the above stated $100 million. The Democrats back in February asked for $300 million.
Bottom Line: Safety is far more important than partisan politics. A deal on state bonding is a must.

I just hope another accident doesn't have to happen before elected officials decide to put good money to use.

I can't believe CT has over 411 bridges in need of repair. Rell better get her priorities straight

I watched the Ideas at Work and Beyond last night and found the clip of the bridges in Danbury in need of repair to be very shocking. ONE OF THEM WAS BEING HELD UP BY 2 PLANKS OF WOOD.

Mr. Farid Khouri needs to get to work.

I just watched the video and they didn't say that the bridge was being held up by the wood. Ivon asked if it was being held up and Ken Gucker said no, he thought it was there possibly for lateral support.

What was striking in the video was the water run-off as well as the rotted metal support beam.

Ivan has ZERO credibility. Don't pay any attention to him OR hate city boy. You have hit the ground running with this site. Great job so far!

You are such a moron. Those two planks are used for support when the concrete was poured. They are old forms. The Concrete holds up the bridge Ivan is a dope.. “

I can see that your knowledge of structural support is as vast as your open mindedness to the truth. Drop the spin and open your eyes. What concrete was poured? There is no concrete and how do you pour it through a road surface? Where are the forms? Try again.
