Silly Man

Someone e-mailed me over this past week and their question asked if I was the African drum maker who had tested positive for anthrax. Wow. People are quite creative these days. So in response to that e-mail I would like to say sorry for the lack of posts but have some great things to publish in the coming week.
I went to the Taste of Danbury both days (boy Saturday was a success, the crowd was smaller Sunday.) What happened when Mayor Boughton was introduced on stage?
The Irish Fest was enjoyable. Always great food, great entertainment and great people.
Either that e-mail I received was a hint to get back on track with my blogging or the gentleman wanted me to discuss the Anthrax situation, (that which we all know so well already - city of Danbury and local news stations did a great job informing the public.)
So come on back. I just saw how many comments filtrated on my BIG T story (39)! That's a great number considering how new this blog is. Spread the Word!

Adios Big T

Well it's been a few weeks since I enjoyed sitting infront of my television at 9 p.m. on Friday evenings listening to nothing but immature, angry, hate speech. You all can think what you want but that is what Big T's talk and variety show consisted of and you all know it. Thanks to a local blogger, (Great Job Hat City) Big T's show was brought to Comcast's attention. Nothing against the fellow himself (Tom Bennett) but I think Danbury can offer local residents more maturity and respect when broadcasting voices and opinions. Oh and let's make sure to close our blinds at night!

What's Happening?

Boy, our local paper is definitely going down, day by day. Today's poll on the News Times live website was, "How do you feel about the recent chilly weather?" Daily, the front page of the publication is now filled with little tid bits that used to be published maybe once or twice a month...take for example the food service inspections. It seems like those are taking up more and more room. Bringing me to my next point to address. Did it appear to anyone else who read the food inspection reports that NO FOOD SERVICE FACILITY beat HOME DEPOT (100%) in their ratings. Whoa that is pretty sad. You can say all you want about Danbury's ethnic dining facilities but they are surely keeping their scores higher than popular places such as Three Brothers Diner.

Sympathy or a Wake up call

Yesterday's News-Times exposed more regarding the deportation of the Santos Family. On July 10th, 4 out of 5 members of the Danbury family were arrested by ICE for expired visas. This past week, August 2, the 4 members were deported to Brazil leaving behind Mr. and Mrs. Santos' daughter, 17 year old Rayany. Rayany was born in the US therefore isn't facing ICE charges that her father, mother and two brothers are. The family has been living locally for 18 years. For the past 10 years as their visas' had expired, they had been applying for legal status but no luck. Rayany stated, "They're tearing a lot of people apart," she said of ICE. "I wouldn't wish this upon anyone."
Indeed, a sad story, this is one that should be a wake up call to all those, illegal, immigrants who are living here and raising families. Did Mr. and Mrs. Santos ever think about the possibility of being deported, leaving behind their teenage daughter? You can read the N/T article, A family Torn Apart here.

Bottom Line: There is a legal process for entering and staying in this country. Yes, some may find the process to be slow and frustrating but over riding the law is wrong and yes, for breaking any law, big or small, there are consequences for wrong doings.

Tainted Toothpaste?

Just a short post.....Why is Danbury Hospital purchasing supplies, toothpaste, from local dollar stores and mini markets?

Bottom Line: Danbury Hospital had 75% of tainted toothpaste.

August Weather??????

According to weather.com, at 10 p.m. this evening the temperature read 55 degrees. I wonder? Does this mean an early autumn and miserable winter? Check out Danbury's local weather here.

Danbury Development

Glad to see two things this week caught my eye after reading the News Times. They both prove to folks in Danbury that there is more we can do to preserve our beautiful land.
#1 - The Taylor Farm; what a great idea for the city to purchase it and save it from the real estate market.
# 2 - A tree grows in Rogers Park; congrats to Bartlett Tree Experts for 90+ years and thanks for sharing this time with the entire city of Danbury by planting this tree.

We all can make the place we live a beautiful one. The term overdevelopment concerns alot of residents of Danbury, myself included.

Bottom Line: Let's do more things like the two above and take control of overdevelopment.

Are Bridges and Underpasses safe?

In a recent editorial in the News Times we learned that CT must take steps to make sure bridges are safe. Governor Rell's plan, "Safe and Sound," is a project that will cost $100 million in making sure some of the worst bridges in CT get repaired. It sounded as though Speaker of the House, James Amann, (D-Milford) requested money before the horrific incident in Minnesota (I-35W bridge) this past week and Rell shook it off. Some say Rell is, 'playing politics' by granting her new plan a day before the Democrats' press conference. On the other hand, Rell did increase bridge inspections in June from every two years to every four years and $40 million to the above stated $100 million. The Democrats back in February asked for $300 million.
Bottom Line: Safety is far more important than partisan politics. A deal on state bonding is a must.
